Welp! Here we are on the other side of the election. Like many of you, it’s been a difficult week. I’ve mostly gotten through it by sniffing my dog’s forehead and forcing myself to meet up with friends to try to make sense of it all. (We can’t.)
What I can say is that this newsletter has always been and will continue to be a safe space to get your mind off things for a few minutes. Many of you are new here—welcome!—thanks in large part to wonderful
featuring me in . If you haven’t yet, you can read our interview here:As it happens, we’re also approaching the two-year(!) anniversary of Gatekeeping, so it felt like an appropriate time to reintroduce myself. The best way to do that, I decided, is to simply answer my own questionnaire. So, ahead you’ll find my current faves, from a TikTok that’s actually making me laugh right now to a “vintage” find straight from my dad’s closet. More than ever, thanks for reading 💗
Meet the Gatekeeper:
Name: Lindy Segal (me!)
Calls home: NYC
In a nutshell: Bravo-obsessed chihuahua mom
What was the last great meal you ate?
This Thai-inspired chicken meatball soup from the NYT cooking app had been on my saved list forever and I finally made it over the weekend. Holy moly. I added lots of lime because I like it extra tart, and served over rice as suggested. I can’t wait to make it again!
What’s your current favorite snack?
I just bought some Sugarbee apples from Trader Joe’s, and I swear they’re what Honeycrisps tasted like five years ago. So good.
What was the last link you sent someone?
I’ve watched this TikTok like 95 times.

What is the seemingly random product you can’t stop talking about?
Something about mouth taping feels very “use wellness to shut women up” but sadly, I tried it, and even more sadly, I think it works? I’ve noticed less jaw pain and I swear the shape of my face has changed ever so slightly. Anyway, this is the kind I use. Definitely talk to your doctor if it’s something you’re at all concerned about or have breathing problems—it’s not particularly well studied and I won’t pretend otherwise.
What’s the item you wear most in your closet?
Soon I hope it will be these Larroudé Mary-Janes, which I just got and have a small heel that’s kind to those with weak ankles, like moi. But honestly right now, it’s a 1996 Atlanta Olympics sweatshirt I stole from my dad. It’s perfectly worn in but also in such good condition because he clearly forgot about it somewhere around the new millennium. His loss!
What’s your favorite place to shop?
The Real Real. Officially I don’t know that it’s my favorite but it’s easily my most frequent online destination. Otherwise my happy place is dissociating inside of a suburban Target and I simply can’t wait to do so over Thanksgiving.
What’s your current beauty obsession?
Impossible to choose just one, but as I mentioned in my gift guide I have a best of beauty issue coming in December!!
What are you currently reading and watching?
I’m probably the last person on the planet to read Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. And despite my recent rant I truly look forward to getting New York mag in the mail every week. I like to read it while I get my nails done, it feels very analog. And then I watch every Housewives besides O.C. and am also watching Below Deck: Sailing Yacht (I’d like to discuss the name Cloise when we’re all ready).
You have a free day to do anything in your city. What’s on the agenda?
I have a lazy morning watching old Housewives episodes while I sip my coffee and Barney relaxes in his sunny spot. Then, I meet up with friends for brunch in Greenpoint—Chez Ma Tante or somewhere else with good pancakes—and we leisurely walk around and pop into vintage stores while sipping iced coffees. We say “I could live in Greenpoint! I wish there were more trains” about 30 times.
